Tulips

I've been itching to go to the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival for years now. Tonight we finally made it happen! It was a PERFECT Family Home Evening filled with fun, running, rolling, laughter, and beauty. What a spectacular world we have.
Oh, yes, and it made me want to plant tulips in my yard--lots of them.

Easter Finery

This one is my favorite, simply because my girls are each holding one of Luke's hands--without me even asking them to do it. I think it is so sweet. You gotta love Rachel's hand on Luke's head too.

I was pretty proud of myself Easter Sunday because Ben was sick in bed all day and yet I still managed to do the Easter baskets, the fun Easter breakfast, the dressing up, the curling of Emma's hair, AND the pictures of the kids all by myself all before 9:00 a.m. (this is quite an accomplishment for me!). Hope everyone had a splendid Easter.

Emma's birthday

We asked Emma what family activity she wanted to do for her birthday and she immediately said, "the Bean Museum and Brick Oven!" We did the same thing for her birthday last year and it was a hit. So off we went today and fun was had by all.

The Museum--the girls go nuts every time we visit. They love being right up close to the animals. Rachel was a little scared of the big ones.

I had to sneak in a picture of Emma's birthday cake--"Under the Sea." It was a cinch to make, which I needed, since I'm a lousy cake-decorater.

Emma Dawn

Happy birthday Emma! Emma is five today. Below is my favorite picture of her, taken at a family party last summer. Totally relaxed and herself. Love it.

I thought I'd list some things you may or may not know about Emma:

She is passionate about life and gets so excited about even the smallest of things.

She loves to help me cook and bake. It's so nice!

She feels her emotions intensely--when she is happy, she's joyful. When she is mad, she's angry. You get the idea.

She loves new and exciting foods and has a very grownup palate. She much prefers artichokes or salmon to PB & J or cheese. She will almost always eat her vegetables before anything else on her plate.

She is the deepest sleeper I've ever met.

When she empties the silverware from the dishwasher, she makes up stories with all the utensils. Sometimes it takes her 20 minutes to complete this task, but it sure is entertaining to watch!

She thinks that eating sweets will make her throw up and asks me every time she eats a sweet if she's going to throw up (this I can use to my advantage).

She loves to watch movies.

She began reading a few months ago and will read for hours at a time.

She can be WILD!

She loves to hear stories about when Ben and I were little.

She loves art projects.

She has a talent for music. She can memorize songs quickly and easily and sings amazingly on-key for a little kid.

She likes to be bossy.

She is very compassionate and empathic, especially for a child so young. She loves to bring notes and treats to people.

She loves Ariel and REALLY wants to visit Disneyland and the beach.

Her favorite animals are deer and moose.

She doesn't like milk.

She is a great big sister.

She was born with a broken collarbone.

Her favorite dinner is shrimp scampi.

She is so fun to be around and can make us laugh so hard (like the other day when she couldn't remember the name of Little Caesars and called it "Little Tweezers").

Emma, through the years:

As a newborn coming home from the hospital

3 weeks old--blessing day

3 months old

Age 18 months

Age 2

Age 2 1/2--holding baby Rachel

Age 3--on vacation in Diamond Lake, Washington

Age 4--Last Easter

Age 4--deciding to take her nap on the floor, halfway under the bed

Cuddling with her sis

Emma--today--in her birthday outfit from Granby (the candles and decorations on the cupcake on her shirt are Velcro and can be moved around to customize--cool, huh?).

We love you Emma! You bring so much joy into our lives!

Look who's 6 months old!

Yesterday Luke turned six months old. I can't believe half a year has passed since his birth! Time moves at warp speed with your third kid. He's my cuddle bunny. Next week we'll find out his 6-month stats. I'm guessing 21 pounds. I had to buy him a new car seat because he outgrew the infant carrier! Crazy!

Pinkeye

Our house has been ravaged by pinkeye. Emma woke up with it on Saturday, me on Sunday, Ben on Monday, Rachel on Wednesday, and Luke today. Thankfully, Emma and Ben are over it. I STILL have it, as well as Rachel. Poor Luke--his eyes are nearly swollen shut. He doesn't even look like the same baby. He can't see hardly at all and yet he's still so happy. It just breaks my heart to see my little ones' precious eyes so unrecognizable. And then trying to get those darn eye drops actually IN their eyes--four times a day--a nightmare. I hope next week's a better week. I am so DONE with pinkeye. Until then, here's to using an entire bottle of eye drops this week!
